Actress Jennette McCurdy, known for her role as Sam Puckket in iCarly, revealed that since the beginning of his adolescence he suffered from eating disorders motivated by her mother, Debbie McCurdy.

Jennette spoke to People magazine about her struggle with anorexia and bulimia since she was 11 years old, problems that began with her father, who taught her to count the calories she consumed.

“My mom said that she could teach me how to count calories and that we would be a team, but that she had to keep it a secret. I thought this was an opportunity for me and my mom to get closer,” she told People.

The singer also confessed that sometimes she ate less than a thousand calories a day, because she wanted her mother to feel proud, she also commented that, when she was chosen for the character of the Nickelodeon series, she was already anorexic, hiding her condition at all times. , in addition to avoiding food at all costs.

“Ironically, the hallmark of my character is that he loves food. He had scenes where he was supposed to eat and they had a bucket to spit into. But I was terrified that I still had calories in my body (…). I didn’t realize how intense it was but I’m sure everyone attributed the weight loss to normal body fluctuations,” she added.

Jennette McCurdy developed bulimia disorder

After the death of her mother from cancer, the artist developed bulimia disorder.

“I switched to binge eating. I ate everything in sight.

Bulimia took over my life very quickly. I was throwing up 10 times a day and couldn’t stop. But the cycle of bulimia kept me clouded. It was a full-time job, so there was no space to deal with my problems or cry for my mother, ”she was honest.

However, after years of this battle, Jennette had two key moments that made her reflect and try to seek help. The first was when she passed out in the bathroom of Miranda Cosgrove, the protagonist of the series, and who she became one of her great friends.

“I passed out in my friend’s bathroom. I had thrown up and passed out on the cold marble floor. That terrifies me because I could have died, drowned in my own vomit, “she said.

The second situation was when she lost a tooth in the bathroom of an airplane, as a result of destroying its enamel by stomach acids.
